Daily Makeup Products

I'm a fairly simple girl makeup wise during the week. I work in an office pretty much alone all day and being in the construction industry, I'm generally the only female around. As much as I'd love to work in an environment where I can get all dolled up every day, I have to keep it a bit subdued here. This is generally what I wear, excluding the MAC powder which only makes an appearance once in a while. Not pictured is Benefit's POREfessional.

LuxeBox - May Edition

I received my first LuxeBox in the mail yesterday. There were actually two boxes this month, the regular LuxeBox and a white Bath and Body box. Here is what I received!

The white box was definitely a nice surprise and was provided in honour of Mothers Day.

Upon opening the black box, this is what I was greeted with. I had read about the personalized stickers and must agree that it is a nice touch.

Included was a card that specified the details of what is in the box, a coupon for $20 off a subscription with Pantybypost.com, a P&G sponsored 'Thank You Mom' post card and a small card describing the 'My Scent' program.

This is the first look into the box. It really is nice looking and well packaged. I was excited to see the full sized Essie polish!

CK Shock - "This addictive scent opens with a fierce bouquet of passion flower (they actually wrote 'passion floor' on the card), deepened with blackberry and finishes with magnetic amber leaving a lasting impression"

Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola! - "This scent opens with refreshing raspberry, pink peony and the dry down with vanilla leaves an unforgettable flirtatious touch"

Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty - "This fresh fruity floral scent evokes sensuality and sophistication"

I'm not much of a fan of CK perfumes but I do own the first Marc Jacobs 'Lola' perfume and actually prefer 'Oh, Lola!' as it's a much lighter scent.

Full sized Essie polish (15ml) - $8

The colour I received is "Camera". It's a really nice rich pinky coral colour that is perfect for summer. I think I might have to do a quick pedicure after work for the weekend :)

Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Color Care Shampoo & Conditioner - 9ml each
(Full size is 236ml and retails for $30 - Approximate value of the 4 samples $4.60)

This product is described as being gentle, rich and protective against UV rays. I really like that we got two of each as I can get an actual feel for the product.

Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Color Care Rapid Results Moisture Mask - 8.6g each
(Full size is 198g and retails for $45 - Approximate value of the 2 samples - $3.90)

Described as a unique mask that extends the life of your hair pigment with colorlock protection. UV protective.

Olay Regenerist - Wrinkle Revolution Complex - 7ml
(Full size is 15ml and retails for $60 - Approximate value of 2 samples - $56)

This is a pretty expensive product considering the small amount you get. I received two tubes of this, one in the black box and one in the Bath and Body box. Fine lines are promised to disappear before your eyes. These will be going to my mom.

The Bath and Body products came in a nice white box which had a great contrast against the black LuxeBox.

Inside the white box was an Olay Venus razor with one cartridge. I actually need to go buy some razors so this was a welcome surprise! We also received another sample of the Olay wrinkle cream, which I mentioned above.

Overall, I'm fairly satisfied with this box. As it is my first Luxe box, I was a bit worried since I've seen so many upset comments as of late from their customers. I signed up for a 3 month subscription to give them a fair chance and once that is up, I'll decide whether I'm staying with them or not

Did you receive the same products? What are your thoughts on LuxeBox?

Edit: After seeing boxes that other people got, I'm actually pretty disappointed in the samples that were included in this one. Hopefully next month is better.

GlossyBox update

I'm sure you all noticed that I haven't posted a review for the April GlossyBox. Unfortunately, due to a Canada Post mix up, my box was returned undelivered and I had to wait for it to get shipped back out to me. I just received it on Tuesday.

I won't be posting a full review as there are already 1000 of them about the April box. I will be doing a proper review for the May box when it comes and my Loosebutton LuxeBox should be delivered today.

One thing I will say though is that the customer service I received from Glossybox during this mixup was fantastic. They responded to my emails quickly and I have no complaints. Canada Post however, that's another story.

Remember, if you'd like to sign up for Glossybox and receive 5 deluxe samples in the mail every month, use code GLOSSY27 at checkout to get a 10% discount ($1.50) off your first box!

Random Update

I know I haven't mentioned this before and it's definitely not beauty related but I'm sharing it anyway!

My band, Kush, is playing our first show ever tonight! I'm really stoked and semi-nervous as it will be the first time I'm singing on stage (aside from alcohol-fueled karaoke excursions lol). It's a small show but the bands split the proceeds from the door and a lot of our friends and family are coming out to show support.

If anyone is interested in hearing our music, you can find us on Soundcloud at http://soundcloud.com/kush-music

Now that I got the shameless self-promotion out of the way, back to makeup!

I ordered a HUGE haul from E.L.F. yesterday. I really needed new brushes and they had a promotion where you could get their entire studio set for $3 if you spent a certain amount.. needless to say, I was sold. I'll be doing an update when my package is received (hopefully next week) but since it's shipping to Canada who knows how long it will take to get here.

Shoppers Haul Update

Wow, okay, I know I said I'd post an update 'soon' in my original post.. lets pretend a month later can be considered as 'soon'

Here's a run down of what I 'purchased' with my accumulated Shoppers Optimum points that day.

1. Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara - ($20)

This is my HG mascara that can always be found in my purse AND makeup bag. It makes my lashes look gorgeous without clumping and keeps them soft instead of hard and brittle like a lot of other mascaras. I've yet to find a suitable replacement for this.

2. Benefit High Beam - ($26)

I was using my Eye Bright highlighting pencil for a while as an all-over highlighter but always wanted to try the High Beam. Well.. I'm in love! It's really an amazing product and the applicator brush (kind of like a nail polish brush) is so easy to use. This will be a staple for sure.

3. Lise Watier Havana bronzing powder in Light - ($28)

I have never used a bronzer before and was always a bit worried I'd end up looking like a Jersey Shore cast member. I'll be honest and say I still haven't used this too much. Weather wise, it's been pretty gloomy in Toronto and I've always thought out of season tans were kind of tacky. Once I get the chance to use this more, I'll do a full review.

4. Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift Smoothing Primer - ($35)

I've been wearing a lot of highly pigmented lipstick lately and have been having a bit of an issue. It always seems to stain my lips so an evening crimson pout carries over to a Sunday breakfast pout.. kind of awkward lol. This primer was really pricey and I'm not sure I'd spend the money on it but since I had Optimum points, I decided to give it a shot. The packaging is absolutely stunning and really makes you feel like you purchased a quality product. Performance wise, I've used this under bright red lipstick and fuschia lipstick with absolutely no issues. It smooths my lips, makes even application easier and allows me to actually remove the colour when I'd like to. As I said, it's pretty pricey so I don't know if I'll repurchase but it's definitely a quality product.

5. Smashbox Nude Lip Pencil in Fair - ($18)
LOOOOOVE! This lipliner is fantastic! It matches the shade of my natural lips perfectly and has amazing staying power. It's replaced every other lip liner I own and looks great with both coloured lipstick and sheer gloss. Definitely a repurchase. It comes in 3 other shades for different skin tones. I'd recommend this to anyone.

6. Biotherm Aquasource Skin Perfection Moisturizer - ($45)
I've been on a hunt for a good moisturizer since my fav got discontinued a while back. It's been a bumpy road. Unfortunately some of those bumps were on my face due to using the wrong products. I took a real chance with this. I've always liked Biotherm products but never used them long enough to actually get a good idea of how they work for me. It's been a month now and I think I may have found a keeper. This moisturizer is great. It has a really sleek feel to it and you can feel how hydrated your skin is after use. It's got a bit of a gritty texture.. like really really really fine grit. It's hard to describe but feels amazing. It's got a bit of a cooling effect when you first apply it which is really nice. I received a gift set and a makeup bag filled with other Biotherm products when I purchased the moisturizer.

Well, that's everything for now. Sure felt like a long post but I guess it was fairly overdue. Do you use any of these products? What are your hits and misses?
